Cast In Style Review: Traditional Cast Iron Airers and Architectural Hardware From a Family Business

Cast In Style’s best-documented strength is sturdy, traditional cast iron products backed by helpful service. Its Trustpilot TrustScore is 4.8 out of 5 (“Excellent”) from 158 reviews, with 85% five stars. One buyer of hanging basket brackets wrote, “They are extremely sturdy - I am delighted with them,” another who bought 12 sets of tee hinges and latches for oak doors said “Good price, nice design with well packaged fast delivery,” and a third praised “Quick, efficient and very easy engagement with the Cast in Style customer support teams.” Based in Shifnal, Shropshire, Cast In Style is a family business selling cast iron architectural hardware and homeware, best known for its Kitchen Maid Clothes Airer, a traditional pulley-operated ceiling airer that dries laundry without electricity. The range also includes door hinges, latches, knobs, hanging basket brackets and other period-style ironwork.

The honest caveat: small details and parts. One buyer felt the company “nickel and dime you for every little piece,” and another said “the stoppers that came with it are black” on an ivory airer. Recent review volume is low, with only 3 in the last 12 months.

Full Review Breakdown

The Kitchen Maid Clothes Airer

Cast In Style’s best-known product is the Kitchen Maid Clothes Airer, a traditional ceiling-mounted airer with cast iron end pieces and wooden laths, raised and lowered with a pulley and rope. Hung above a kitchen range, utility room or stairwell, it uses rising warm air to dry clothes without a tumble dryer, saving energy and space. It’s a practical piece of Victorian design that has come back as households look to cut energy bills. Buyers like the 4-lath and 5-lath versions. One said “Really happy with it now it’s up.” Installation needs care: you have to fix into solid ceiling joists, and a fully loaded airer is heavy. Once fitted, it’s a durable, attractive feature that lasts for years.

Cast Iron Hardware and Garden Brackets

Beyond airers, Cast In Style sells cast iron architectural hardware: tee hinges, Suffolk latches, door knobs, bolts and other period fittings, plus garden pieces like hanging basket brackets. Buyers praise the quality. Hanging basket brackets are “extremely sturdy,” and the buyer felt they were worth the £40-per-bracket price. A customer who bought 12 sets of tee hinges and latches for oak doors called them “Good price, nice design.” Cast iron suits cottages, farmhouses, barn conversions and period renovations, where modern stainless hardware can look out of place. It’s heavy and solid, so use appropriate screws and fixings. Treat outdoor pieces occasionally to prevent rust.

Service, Exchanges and Parts

Cast In Style’s customer service gets strong praise. One customer described “Quick, efficient and very easy engagement” with support when arranging a return and replacement, and another appreciated a smooth exchange for a returned airer part. As a family business, it seems to treat customers personally. The criticisms are about parts. One buyer, who had ordered the wrong part, felt the company “nickel and dime you for every little piece” and didn’t resolve the problem to their satisfaction. Another found the stoppers on an ivory airer came in black and bought clear ones elsewhere. Check exactly which parts and finishes are included before ordering, and confirm measurements and part numbers with support.

Who It Suits

Cast In Style suits homeowners renovating period properties, anyone wanting an energy-free way to dry laundry, and gardeners who want durable, traditional brackets. The 4.8 TrustScore across 158 reviews shows consistent satisfaction over the years, though only three reviews were posted in the last 12 months, so recent experience is less documented. Heavy cast iron means installation matters, so use a capable DIYer or tradesperson for ceiling airers and heavy brackets. If you love traditional design and want hardware built to last generations, Cast In Style is a strong specialist choice.
